Timothy is the recipient of the Nippon Music Foundation Rare Instrument Loan program.

He will receive the loan of a rare instrument for the next 7 years!

It's easy to forget that there are people suffering from COVID-19. As an artist, it's hard to find specific ways to help those in need right now, but recently I've been joining Project: Music Heals Us to provide virtual one-on-one concerts to patients in hospitals in San Diego, California.

As a child, he dreamed of becoming a pilot. For hours, he would stand with his father on the lookout platform of the airport in his hometown of ­Victoria in Canada. “Watching planes come in to land just fascinated me,” Chooi, now 25, ­recalls. One day, he was given a violin, and from that day forward, he never wanted to stop playing.

Timothy Chooi wins the Bronze Medal (3rd Prize) at the 2015 Michael Hill International Violin Competition in New Zealand.  He performed the Sibelius Violin Concerto with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.


Two young violinists are in Newfoundland and Labrador for the final concert of a classical music series, and have brought two extremely expensive instruments with them.

Nikki & Timothy Chooi, who are from Victoria, BC, are the star performers at Friday's performance of Oh Brother! at the Arts and Culture Centre in St. John's.
